Topic: Smash Dirty Data with a Behavior Flowchart Case Study for Staff
Thank you to everyone who joined us February 28th for our monthly Coaches’ Corner discussion. If you missed it, please register for the next one on our Events page. Our next session will be on April 24, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. MST. If you are already registered, no need to register again.
Adult Behavior Flowchart Case Study
We began the discussion by reviewing the behavior flowchart which is a critical artifact in a 4-Part Accountability System typical in all PBIS/MTSS schools. The behavior flowchart outlines for students and staff the procedures that all staff in the school follow when a student disrupts the learning of others. It is directly linked to the school-wide expectations. Therefore it’s important that the behavior flowchart is displayed in all classrooms, resource rooms, and special areas, just like fire drill maps and lockdown procedures are displayed in all rooms on campus.
We ended the session modeling how to use a Case Study to teach the behavior flowchart process to staff. Questions in the case study helped staff determine if the example behavior was a major or a minor problem (as defined by the flowchart), how to follow the flowchart process correctly, and when staff feedback to the student escalates to an officer discipline referral. The benefit of all staff using the same discipline procedures - a behavior flowchart - is consistent, predictable, and equitable discipline procedures for all students in your school.
