Koi Education was please to be a presenter at the 50th Anniversary Council for Children with Behavioral Disorders conference in New Orleans, LA last week. The conference saw many exceptional sessions from the top researchers in the field of behavioral disorders.Keynote AddressKeynote addresses were delivered by icons of our field. Dr. Steve Forness, from UCLA, shared a retrospective of the "thread" that runs through the 50 years of CCBD's advocacy and practice. He noted especially how research on pharmacological, psychological, and behavioral interventions are beginning to merge to increase the outcomes for children with behavior disorders and challenging behavior problems. He ended by reminding the audience of educators that "We are the Seal Team 6 of education", since we work with the most behaviorally challenging students in and out of school!Dr. Geoffrey Colvin, from Australia, presented another excellent keynote focusing on the movement in our field away from labels and toward a support model of intervention. This support model, PBIS and RTI, focus on meeting the needs of the child rather then just diagnosing the child with a problem. This model instead focuses on support and solutions! Koi Education is the largest PBIS professional development source in Arizona, feel free to contact us for information.Koi Education Sessions at CCBD11Koi was proud to be selected by the CCBD peer review research process to present two papers. Our first paper was about our use of cutting edge technology to assist schools with staff ownership, buy-in, and sustainability of their PBIS initiative.
