Presentation Sessions
Courageous Conversations on Culture: Issues of Implicit Bias, Equity, and Disproportionality in Education
Join an expert panel to explore culturally responsive practices and discover equitable approaches in schools. Participants will learn about the construct of culture as it relates to school systems and how disproportionality in discipline and achievement impact special education. Solution oriented practices focused on positive community outcomes will be shared.
Trauma & Wellness at PreK, ES, MS, HS: An Expert Panel
We all know trauma is a problem - this school year has given everyone a lot! What educators need are concrete solutions - not platitudes. This panel brings together three experts in early, middle and adolescent child development with a focus on preventing trauma, maintaining wellness, and communicating with teens.
Ensuring Equity For Students With Behavioral and Emotional Challenges In All Settings (virtual and in-person)
This is going to be a very practical panel. As one can see, the panel consists of experts in the area of behavior, emotional disturbance, special education, and the practical delivery of services at the school and district levels. The panelists will provide concrete and direct strategies for engaging and working with students with behavioral and emotional challenges. The priority of the panel is to extend practical knowledge and advice for daily practice in the schools and classrooms. Participants will walk away with concrete, clear, and easy-to-implement strategies when working with children with behavioral and emotional challenges.
Basics of Youth Suicide Prevention
Youth suicide rates are on the increase and anxiety and depression are the most common mental health challenges. Most youth who receive mental health services receive them at school. Educators need concrete guidance on behavior indicators, stressors, and risk factors to look for and specific strategies for intervention and referral.
Sex Trafficking In The Schools: Recognizing Teen Victims And Identifying Prevention Strategies
Per an Arizona sex-trafficking study, 22% of victims self-identified as having received special education. Nearly 30% were first brought into the “trade” as middle or high schoolers. Special Education teachers/staff have the unique opportunity to prevent, identify and respond to sexual exploitation on campus and within the school community.
