We began our session by reviewing what it looks like to implement the Check-In, Check-Out (CICO) Cycle with fidelity. We discussed the day-to-day timing, necessary steps, use of the Daily Progress Report form, and the role of the teacher. We also talked about *why* It's such a successful Tier 2 intervention.
From there we talked about weekly CICO steps, including the coordinator’s role in summarizing data to share with the Tier 2 team, as well as the importance of assessing teacher fidelity. We also discussed monthly components of the intervention, such as looking at the Monthly Percent Responding and the goals we should keep in mind for determining whether or not CICO is successful for our students.
Next, we reviewed the roles of Coordinator, Facilitator, and Tier 2 team and talked about the benefits of training all teachers and students on CICO, given how easy to implement and effective it can be even for groups of students who would benefit from Tier 2 interventions.
Finally, we talked about barriers to successful CICO implementation. These included the perception of not having enough time, as well as uncertainty about how to accurately complete the Daily Progress Report Form at the end of each class or instructional period. We strategized around how to support students participating in CICO even if they might not have an adult at home to reinforce their successes. Questions and potential solutions came up about virtual CICO implementation as well.
